Château de La Messardière: My Guide to the White Lotus Hotel in Saint-Tropez

There are plenty of glamorous hotels in Saint-Tropez. Château de La Messardière is the one I’d choose if you want all of that glamour and an actual family vacation.

The hotel sits high above Saint-Tropez and Pampelonne Bay on a 13-hectare estate filled with umbrella pines, olive trees and gardens. You can spend the morning at the beach, come back for lunch and a swim, send the kids off to what is genuinely one of the most impressive kids clubs I’ve seen, then head into Saint-Tropez for the evening.

And somehow, none of it feels particularly complicated.

That’s Airelles at its best. If you’re new to the brand, I also wrote a full guide to Airelles and what makes its hotels so different.

It’s also about to become much more famous. Château de La Messardière is one of the principal filming locations for Season 4 of The White Lotus and will appear as the fictional White Lotus du Cap.

IS CHÂTEAU DE LA MESSARDIÈRE GOOD FOR FAMILIES?

Very.

If you’re used to choosing between the beautiful adult hotel and the hotel with the great kids club, this is one of those rare places where you don’t have to.

The Airelles Summer Camp occupies its own 500-square-meter villa within the estate and is open to children ages three and up. There are seven themed rooms, a private cinema, LEGO workshop, arcade games, treehouse, trampolines, two pools and even a mini-farm. The schedule changes constantly, with things like baking, treasure hunts, pool parties, magic, sports and outdoor activities.

Which means you can be having lunch overlooking Saint-Tropez while your children are somewhere else feeding animals, making pizza and having an equally good vacation.

That balance is what makes La Messardière so special for families.

WHAT’S INCLUDED AT CHÂTEAU DE LA MESSARDIÈRE?

This is also one of the hotels that explains why I find Airelles so compelling.

Current room inclusions are unusually generous. Breakfast is included, as is the minibar, selected laundry, packing and unpacking, poolside nonalcoholic refreshments and access to the Airelles Spa by Valmont.

Lunch is also included at either La Table de La Messardière or Jardin Tropezina, Airelles’ beach club on Pampelonne. Transportation between the château, the beach and central Saint-Tropez is included via Rolls-Royce or Mini Moke, and electric bicycles are available as well. This generous approach to inclusions is one of the things that defines Airelles across the portfolio.

It’s not inexpensive. But once you’re there, the hotel feels generous rather than transactional.

You can order the Coke. Go to lunch at the beach. Send something to the laundry. Get a ride into town. Let the kids go do the activity.

You stop spending the day wondering what everything costs and start enjoying Saint-Tropez.

WHAT ROOMS ARE BEST FOR FAMILIES?

This is where I’d be careful about simply booking whatever room appears first online.

Room categories and occupancy vary considerably, and the château, gardens and residences offer very different experiences.

For families who want more space, the Louise Suite is particularly interesting. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large terrace and its own private pool, with space for four guests. Larger families can also look at the three and four-bedroom residences, which sleep six and eight respectively.

For smaller families, some suites sleep three, but I’d look closely at the exact configuration, location and view before choosing.

At a property this spread out, where your room sits within the estate matters too.

IS CHÂTEAU DE LA MESSARDIÈRE THE WHITE LOTUS HOTEL?

Yes.

Season 4 of The White Lotus is filming in France, with Château de La Messardière serving as one of the principal hotel locations. The property will appear on screen as the White Lotus du Cap.

That’s going to introduce a huge new audience to the hotel.

My advice is fairly predictable. If you already want to stay here, I wouldn’t wait for everyone who watches The White Lotus to discover it too.

WHY I BOOK CHÂTEAU DE LA MESSARDIÈRE FOR CLIENTS

I book Airelles for clients and have direct relationships with the team, which matters at a hotel like this.

A reservation is only the starting point.

I want the hotel to know who’s arriving, how old your children are, whether you’re celebrating something, what matters to your family and what type of room experience you’re hoping for.

Sometimes that means priority consideration for a particular room location. Sometimes it means making sure a birthday or anniversary is known in advance. Sometimes it’s simply having the team understand the family before everyone arrives.

None of those things are guarantees, but with a hotel this service-driven, the small details can have an outsized impact on the stay.

SHOULD YOU STAY AT CHÂTEAU DE LA MESSARDIÈRE?

If you want to be in Saint-Tropez but also want a hotel where you can actually relax for several days, yes.

I particularly like it for families who want a real resort rather than using their hotel purely as a base. The kids programming is exceptional, the beach club gives you an entirely different setting during the day, and Saint-Tropez is still there whenever you want it.

The parents get Saint-Tropez.

The kids get what might be their favorite hotel of the trip.

Nobody has to compromise.

WANT TO BOOK CHÂTEAU DE LA MESSARDIÈRE?

Send me your dates, who’s traveling and your children’s ages. I’ll help you choose the right room or suite, compare the best available rates and benefits, and work directly with the team before you arrive.

Hotel-only bookings are complimentary through me, and you’ll still pay the hotel directly.
